Explore the tranquil island of Dominica and enjoy a customized horseback ride, suited expertly to your personal taste and riding capability. The trails are situated in and around Cabrits National Park – a peninsular found at the north end of the island… occupying 1,313 acres near Portsmouth. Cabrits is an extinct volcano that was once its own island.
The park is a protected area of tropical forest, wetlands and coral reefs and includes segment 14 of the Waitukubuli Trail. Ride through the forest along the ocean from Douglas Bay to Prince Rupert Bay which provides a shaded canopy of trees with the wetlands on one side and the ocean on the other. The flora and fauna are like nowhere else in the Caribbean.
Once at Prince Rupert Bay, you may ride up to Fort Shirley which is an English Garrison that once housed 600 soldiers. And for a slightly more adventurous ride, guests could also ride up the very top of the Cabrits. The path winds along the original roads the soldiers used! The history here is simply unbelievable, with the old stone ruins and cannons along the way.
On the trail, there are many opportunities to stop at different levels to see breathtaking views. You may even see a rainbow! Rainforest Riding offers many different trails and a beach ride where you can swim with the horses at Purple Turtle Beach in Prince Rupert Bay. The horses love to go in the water! It is so much fun!
