One of my favorite hiking experiences to date and a close second favorite to the Boiling Lake is my discovery of Lakes Trail. This trail passes through a range of rugged terrains and spectacular views, offering some amazing photography opportunities. This adventure starts in Providence (from the picnic shelter), along with the Middleham Trail (part of segment 4 of the Waitukubuli Trail), then branches off into the dusky Middleham Rainforest.
Feel the temperatures significantly begin to drop and the air also becoming notably thinner during an elevated climb to a mountain top. From this mountain top, is a breathtaking vantage point revealing three small aligned freshwater lakes called the Trinity Lakes (one of the major highlights of this hike). Continuing from this point of the adventure, hikers must practice great caution trekking along lake borders and swamplands.
Depending on weather conditions, completing Lakes Trail will require rope climbing for both ascending and descending – as some of the landscape cannot be maneuvered during wet conditions without such assistance. This moderate to challenging hike trail ends at the Boeri Lake located in Ludat, in Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Boeri Lake is the highest lake in Dominica with an altitude of 2,850-feet (860-metres) and is usually masked in mist.
